but they put their time into some behemoth that is something weird. There is so much stuff that can be put into another level. Its forcing you into a min/max or "optimal" path which is the #1 sin in game design The game still has so many better systems and options then anything else, but they keep putting more of a crunch on it because the Min/Maxers and people that read every guide say they can get though the game easily. įestering skys in just my option has taken the game a step i the wrong direction when i was hoping it would take a step in the players favor, its made the game harder and even more grindy - its add a few opinion while adding a mechanic that is forced resource drain in addition to the games other resource drains while giving you almost no way to increase your resources ,its added a stupidly designed enemy that good at everything with no weaknesses, added nothing to help counter it, its only added mechanics to the game that make the game harder and force more of a resource crunch. Its a fun game till mid game when a lot of the longer term mechanics kick is and the miss match of competing systems and concepts just aren't working for me.
But I would probably not pay the same amount (50 USD) of money for it right now, with all the information I have about the game and how it looks/plays. I don't regret backing the game in the past and giving my money to the devs in advance to give them a chance.
Or even Firaxis XCOM2, from time to time. As I used to do with those decades old original X-COMs. But it's still not a game I would like to play because it's kinda fun to play as it is. I realize that I mostly play PP irregularly, only after some major patches/DLCs, just to test a new things. But it hasn't yet gone to the stage where I could say it's very good/great. Generally speaking, I hope that this game is gonna get better. Like some pointless difficulty spikes on some missions. Like completely stupid AI of some enemy units. Then there are those still persistent tactical battle aspects.
I think there are still too many cases when you simply decide it would be better to start over, because you simply didn't get that "lucky roll" in the beginning and could not play the way you should have. I like being punished for my own strategic mistakes. I know that this is a game where you are trying to defend the world from destruction, so you can't expect the resources to be abundant. I like the game being challenging, don't get me wrong. Same goes for Scavenging missions, to get some resources (now even more scarce than before, as you can't establish your food trade routes). And yet, I have not met a SINGLE Anu haven to interact with them any way. Like my recent playthrough - I started in South America, progressed to North America, got the whole American continent covered, Antarctica as well. Sometimes you get a nice roll, sometimes not. I also feel that it's a question of pure luck how playable will be the game. It's not buggy in the terms of game crashes or hangs, that's fine.īut still it feels like an unfinished product - like the components of the game not working well together as a whole. Some things are different from what I remember (I was kinda surprised you can't build food factories from the start, for example :-) ), but that's OK, things change.īut I can't just get rid of the feeling that it's still "work in progress" game. This is good because the devs are probably responding to the players' complaints/feedback. Well, the game definitely got better in terms of stability and UI. What I see now, after all those patches, DLCs and the stuff. Can't say I am disappointed, but the game still doesn't have the feeling I hoped it to have. I returned to PP after a year or so, because I was very curious about Festering Skies DLC (I loved intercepting enemy crafts in original X-COMs in 90s). I waited some time, it got a bit polished, I gave it a couple of playthroughs. I was much less happy when the game got released - was very buggy. I am a backer, I was happy with those first backer builds where you could test and see just a couple of things.
